Hi everyone! My name is Maggie (she/her) and I’m one of the new mods in the Fanhackers team! I’m French, currently studying to become a teacher, and starting to prepare to apply for a PhD next year. I’ve been in fandom since I was 13 years old and discovered you could use social media to meet people who like the same thing you do. My first fandom was Doctor Who and, like most teenagers who were on Tumblr in 2013, I had a Superwholock phase for a while. Since then, I’ve gotten into quite a lot of different fandoms (Star Trek, Hannibal, MCU, Good Omens…).
I discovered fan studies in undergrad thanks to one of my teachers (who will hopefully supervise my thesis in the future!) and I was able to pick it up during my Master’s degree. I’ve been mostly working on fan/producer relationships, my Master’s thesis is called “The complex relationship between TV producers and Slash fans as demonstrated by Supernatural.” I’m interested in many subjects like queerbaiting, the transformative aspect of fanworks, the way canon is constructed for fans… I’m excited to talk about these subjects and more!
My projects on Fanhackers are to work on organizing the fan studies bibliography and make a series of posts on the classics of fan studies for anyone who’d like to get into it but wouldn’t know where to start. Because of the teacher’s exam, I haven’t been able to do anything related to fan studies so I’m really glad I have the opportunity to get back into it and I can’t wait to start posting here!
